It's a hot summer night down at rosita's cafe In the pale moonlight the women swing and sway Pedro doesn't mind if the shake a little ass As long as he's selling cerveza by the glass And in walks in the men from over the border They looking for a thrill to cause a little disorder They ask the barkeep for a little jive Hey says hey amigo you need a little thrill from salsa number five With the moon getting higher they're setting them on fire with salsa number five Exchanging some glances they don't know what to do But when you're in rositas no one ever has a clue Staring at the locals flying on their way Nobody minds while the patrons rock and sway But when you're in Mexico you gotta take a chance Living only one to experience The muerto Dance The barkeep assures them you'll make it back alive But you never had a trip like Salsa number five With the moon getting higher they're setting them on fire with salsa number five They got a plate of tortillas with the salsa piled on top When you pick up a handful you know you'll never stop Wash it down with Tequilla and don't forget the lime With salsa number five you'll have a bueno time The feeling is upon them like an iguana in the night The walls they are a breathing and the senses taking flight The sombreros start to melt and the stools turn on their ends You're never gonna know when it starts and when it ends With the moon getting higher they're setting them on fire with salsa number five

Oh, I'm going to the seaside Getting out to the ocean I love to swim out amongst the fishes You know that's one of my favorite wishes Oh, to be by the seaside To be all out in the sun Getting all brown on the skin I like to dive in I like to be with the fishes That's one of my wishes When the tide comes in When the tide goes out...

Joe Mina floating in his magical canoe Joe Mina searching for a pathway that is true Living the life of a happy man, spreading his charms wherever he goes Surveying the soil with a champagne cork that uncoils from a basket of cheer, that will soon disappear Joe Mina floating in his magical canoe Joe Mina walking out in the morning dew Although he was expelled from the universities, six years later he got his degree Under the Buddha he trained but all the wisdom he gained Emerged in his belly, at the all night deli Joe Mina floating in his magical canoe Joe Mina skies are now changing hues He's a storyteller from the olden days, changes each time the words leave his lips No one could trust his stories of lust But he gets so excited his libido's ignited Joe Mina floating in his magical canoe Joe Mina just walk a mile within his shoes Women are a must for this jolly man, a smile on his face when he sees them go by Feeling his best, plundering a treasure chest Quite a relief, unless she has no teeth Joe Mina floating in his magical canoe Joe Mina on a mango he never will chew He's bound to leave a mark on your soul an experience that words cannot express He'll enrich your life, but don't leave him with your wife He's smooth as silk as he sends you out for milk Joe Mina floating in his magical canoe Joe Mina searching for a pathway that is true searching for a pathway that is new a modern day guru

May the fifth be good to you and your love Laying out on the green green grass Actors trying to project out of the shell It's much ado about everything Watch what you say So the moment will stay Not fade away The fountains all run dry While the children they swim Waving their flags for peace For inside their minds are closed Watch what you say So the moment will stay Not fade away Fields of strawberries and eternity flow through the air You and I are the only ones in this crowd of millions Sounds of drums and the underground Hot dogs and pretzels Got to carry this bag in secret Diamonds and Emeralds Watch what you say So the moment will stay Not fade away Jazz on the path of the Dakotas Fills me with innocence The highway of life now lies Majestically in front of us Watch what you say So the moment will stay Not fade away Fields of strawberries and eternity flow through the air You and I are the only ones in this crowd of millions You and I are the only ones in this crowd of millions You and I are the only ones in this crowd of thousands You and I are the only ones in this crowd of hundreds You and I are the only ones

The crow of the cock wakes me up Toward the skies of orange and beyond Limelight sun as the day begins Freedom and happiness are together again A little bird I picked you up Broken wings From the years of neglect A little frightened You opened up Mended your spirit And filled up your cup Through forests of azure I plant my seeds Walk in the fields morning glory moonbeams Look inside the oxen yolk Where Eastern spices and rices are found A little bird I picked you up Broken wings From the years of neglect A little frightened You opened up Mended your spirit And filled up your cup And only when one has died Do we only regret that our eyes were closed And now again you must take flight For our land is for visiting and not your home A little bird I picked you up Broken wings From the years of neglect A little frightened You opened up Mended your spirit And filled up your cup

Driving my Stanley Steamer It's all so sweet driving down the street I'm waving to the ladies They're giving me the smile I'm giving them an eye Driving down another mile Every Sunday morning I put on my scarf And go driving down to the park And stay until after dark Gotta look my best when I'm driving by You know I'm the guy The apple of their eye My Stanley Steamer takes me place to place But you know I'll never win a race My Stanley Steamer takes me place to place But I'm never gonna win a race Puttin my racing goggles Getting behind the wheel Waving at everybody You know how that feels When I look at myself in my go-cart I'm going real far, going real fast I think I'm running out of gas My Stanley Steamer takes me place to place But you know I'll never win a race My Stanley Steamer takes me place to place But you know I'll never win a race My Stanley Steamer takes me place to place You know I gotta save face

Welcome to our town It's not a lot but it's our town We keep our lawns so green With gasoline Still we call it home Welcome to our town We'd love to show you 'round There's a lot to see If you're blind like me and we call it home It's better than good, it's gooder but I wouldn't drink the water 'round here if it bores you silly well, we're right next door to Philly I hear Bensalem, Pennsylvania Bensalem, Pennsylvania Bensalem, Pennsylvania is our town All our friends and neighbors Love to do us favors in Bensalem, Pennsylvania The taxes and our houses Are cheaper than your spouses 'round here The trees they are a-fallin To fit another mall in I hear chorus Glad you saw our town We hope it didn't bring you down But if you're feeling blue What can you do? You'll have to call it home 'Cos if you like our racetrack We know you'll find your way back 'round here Our population's popping But the quality is dropping I fear chorus

And comes in dreams Or so it seems The pathway of my heart The things out there That I need to share I've come back to the start For all my dreams fade into one and they lay at my feet Am I the only one to see that it's all just begun An attempt to find Peace of mind Within my inner self Pandora's box Has lost its locks My fears fall from my shelf For all my dreams fade into one and they lay at my feet Am I the only one to see that it's all just begun My reality Covers me In believes that I hold dear Grasping for A portion more Of what has now been made clear For all my dreams fade into one and they lay at my feet Am I the only one to see that it's all just begun Trying to be real To what I feel And what I need to save When looking back To what I lack Becomes a tidal wave For all my dreams fade into one and they lay at my feet Am I the only one to see that it's all just begun

We go walking through the woods We go exploring in the shed Turning over the stone, finding another home We go opening up the door We go leaving the past behind We go flying above the sea Walking along the beach, changes within our reach We go opening up the door We go We go We go... where we've never gone before We go searching for the clues We go hiding all the crops rewriting histories, making memories We go opening up the door We go giving to the dream We go living the twelth night deep into our hearts, learning our new parts We go opening up the door We go We go We go where we've never gone before Why live a life that binds you down Change it around and open up the door

about

With this album I think we finally recorded the album we'd been wanting to since we started jamming in 1986. Our grasp finally matched our ambitious reach. It's amazing looking back on this album how easy it was for us to create. We didn't force anything or try to be something we weren't. It's a spot-on representation of who we are as musicians and as friends.

From Commodore Elvis' journal:

Our approach to work this time has been quite refreshing. Usually we come to each other with songs that are basically completed, we record them and change a few things in the post-recording stage. Today, we would see which song we were going to do, retire to the couch with our acoustic guitars and try out arrangements, different sequences, solo possibilities and so on. Thus far this process has brought some good ideas to light.

Sunday was a doozie. Basically a 14 hour session with 2 breaks yielding much laughter, much mayhem and much music. Our first order of business was my electric guitar overdubs and such on my Fender Strat. Solos were done for AND COMES IN DREAMS, EL BAILE DEL MUERTO and JOE MINA. Electric strumming was also done for a few songs.

Next came vocal overdubs. Usually Adam is the main singer because he has the stronger voice of the two of us. However, I did the lead vocals for BALLAD OF JOE MINA (Adam's voice is in the bridge since the notes are more suited for his range), I also did vocals for the chorus to LITTLE BIRD - Adam will sing the song proper.

The second portion of the day focused around lyrics, solos and arrangements for Salsa #5. This was quite fun. I rewrote the lyrics to fit what is now becoming the concept of the entire CD. But the best part was my vocal tracks. I basically pictured myself as a large jolly Mexican man with a big long mustache and wide brimmed sombrero - and that's what came across in the vocals. With all the arranging and fiddling Adam will do to this song it's sure to be a classic of epic proportions.

As the evening wore on Adam grabbed the uke as I made up some lyrics and sang some silly little ditties that will be released on 78 rpm - more on that later. However the end of the night consisted a few beers, vocal tracks of odd circumstances and writing the lyrics together to a wise-ass tribute to the town we grew up in: BENSALEM, PENNSYLVANIA. It was a great collaboration. We were like Gilbert and Sullivan on acid. But seriously, it was a real team effort - as well as the entire project. We hope a splendid time will be guaranteed for all.
